Our first outing... it was good to be back!

It's been a long time, but our U13 boys finally made it back out on the pitch this morning, at a rather damp Penarth. But these guys have been away too long to let a bit of rain dampen their spirits, and they put in some great performances!

Match report from Andy Turner... (thank you for leading the boys today Andy)

"Gwent regulars and new players combined effectively this morning for a 3 wins from 3 outcome in the rain at Penarth. We started slowly in 2 games, falling behind to scrappy goals, but controlled the majority of all 3 games, giving our opponents few clear chances.

We played Penarth A, Whitchurch A and Cardiff & Met, the toughest and most 'end to end' game being against hosts Penarth, who survived our early pressure before Gwent found themselves on the back foot, before running out as 1-0 winners. Gwent's new players fitted in well alongside more established players, allowing us to rotate players regularly.

Particular mention must go to Louis for his willingness to play in goal, and for demonstrating the value in wearing a gum shield, deflecting a fast moving ball into his own face when playing outfield.

In summary, some good play, some things to work on, and the boys enjoyed a return to matches.

Thank you to Dan and John for umpiring, and all those who lent their (Covid-safe) support."

Our next outing is in Swansea next week (Sun 23/05) where the boys will play as an U14 team. Have a great week guys!
