Five Gwent Stars in Masters World Cup

Stevie-Marie Jones

Gwent Hockey Club celebrates five members selected to represent Wales at the Masters Hockey World Cup in Rotterdam.

Gwent Hockey Club is delighted to announce that five of our players have been selected to represent Wales at the Masters Hockey World Cup in Rotterdam, marking a proud milestone for both the individuals and the club.

The Masters Hockey World Cup is one of the biggest international competitions in the Masters hockey calendar, bringing together the world's best players to compete at the highest level. Having five Gwent members selected across three different age categories is an incredible achievement and highlights the strength of hockey within our club.

Representing Wales in Rotterdam

Congratulations to our five international representatives:

  • Martha Bates – Wales O35s
  • Leanne Handy – Wales O35s
  • Rosie Davey – Wales O35s
  • Jae Tonkin – Wales O40s
  • Tim Jones – Wales O45s

Each player has earned their place through outstanding performances, dedication and commitment to both club and country. Selection for a Wales Masters Hockey squad is the result of months of training, assessment camps and international preparation, making this an honour that is thoroughly deserved.

A Proud Moment for Gwent Hockey Club

At Gwent Hockey Club, we pride ourselves on being a club where players can enjoy hockey throughout every stage of their lives. From juniors taking their first steps into the sport to experienced players representing Wales on the international stage, our community is built on passion, opportunity and lifelong friendships.

To have five members competing at the Masters Hockey World Cup demonstrates not only the quality of our players but also the supportive environment that exists across the club. Their success reflects the dedication shown week after week on the training pitch and throughout the domestic hockey season.

As one of the leading hockey clubs in South Wales, we are incredibly proud to see our members wearing the Welsh shirt and competing against the very best players from around the world.

Inspiring the Next Generation

International selection is an inspiration to every junior player, senior member and volunteer at Gwent Hockey Club.

It shows that hockey is truly a sport for life. Whether you're just picking up a stick for the first time or have been playing for decades, opportunities to challenge yourself and represent your country remain within reach through commitment, teamwork and a love of the game.

We hope the achievements of Martha, Leanne, Rosie, Jae and Tim encourage the next generation of players to dream big and continue enjoying everything hockey has to offer.

Good Luck from the Orange Army

Everyone at Gwent Hockey Club wishes Martha Bates, Leanne Handy, Rosie Davey, Jae Tonkin and Tim Jones the very best as they travel to Rotterdam to represent Wales at the Masters Hockey World Cup.

The entire Orange Army will be following your journey with pride, and we can't wait to celebrate your achievements throughout the tournament.
