Four More Gwent Members Take on the Masters World Cups
Adding to a summer of international success, four more Gwent players proudly represented Wales on the world stage.
Four more Gwent Hockey Club members proudly pulled on the Welsh shirt this summer, representing Wales at the Masters World Cups in Belgium and the Netherlands.
From standout individual performances to strong team finishes, Joanne Harris, Andrea Fairless, Steve Drowley and Marc Redfern all played their part on the international stage, showcasing the quality and experience within Gwent Hockey Club.
Joanne Harris & Andrea Fairless – Wales Women’s O60s
Joanne Harris and Andrea Fairless represented Wales Women’s O60s at the Masters World Cup in Brasschaat, Belgium, where Wales competed against 13 other nations.
The Welsh side finished 10th out of 14 teams, with both Gwent players making valuable contributions throughout the tournament.
Goalkeeper Joanne Harris enjoyed an impressive tournament, recording four clean sheets as Wales battled through the competition.
Andrea Fairless also made her mark, earning Player of the Match against England and getting her name on the scoresheet with a penalty corner goal.
It was a fantastic achievement for both Joanne and Andrea, representing their club and country on the world stage.
Steve Drowley – Wales Men’s O70s
Over in Breda, the Netherlands, Steve Drowley represented Wales Men’s O70s at their Masters World Cup.
Competing against 12 teams, Wales put together an impressive campaign to finish 4th overall.
Reaching the final four of a World Cup is a fantastic achievement, and Steve can be proud of playing his part as Wales narrowly missed out on a podium finish.
Marc Redfern – Wales Men’s O60s
Back in Brasschaat, Marc Redfern represented Wales Men’s O60s, with the team competing against 16 nations.
Wales finished 9th overall, with Marc contributing a field goal during the tournament.
The team secured ninth place in dramatic fashion, winning 2–0 in a shootout to finish their World Cup campaign on a high.
A Huge Achievement for Gwent
Having four Gwent Hockey Club members represent Wales at Masters World Cups is a fantastic achievement and something the whole club can be proud of.
From Joanne’s four clean sheets and Andrea’s Player of the Match performance, to Steve’s fourth-place finish and Marc’s goal and shootout contribution, all four players demonstrated the skill, experience and commitment that continues to make Gwent Hockey Club so strong.
