Absolutely. We welcome complete beginners of all ages, from children trying hockey for the first time to adults returning to sport or picking up a hockey stick for the very first time.

What age can children start playing hockey?

Children can join Gwent Hockey Club from Reception age. Our junior section provides age-appropriate coaching and fun sessions designed to help young players develop their confidence and skills.

Do you have junior hockey teams?

Yes. We run one of the largest junior hockey sections in South East Wales, with:

Mixed Under 8 and Under 10 teams
Boys' teams from Under 12 to Under 18
Girls' teams from Under 12 to Under 18

Do you have men's and women's teams?

Yes. We have four men's teams competing in the West Hockey England Leagues and four women's teams competing in the South Wales Women's Hockey League, offering hockey for a range of abilities.

Can adults start playing hockey?

Definitely. Many of our members join as adults with little or no previous experience. Whether you're looking to improve your fitness, meet new people or try a new sport, you'll receive a warm welcome.

Do I need my own hockey equipment?

For your first few sessions, all you'll need is suitable sports clothing, trainers or astroturf shoes, shin pads and a gumshield. If you don't have a hockey stick, please let us know before your first session - we will be able to help.

Where does Gwent Hockey Club train?

Training takes place at Cwmbran Stadium in Cwmbran. Full training times and locations for each age group and team can be found on our website or by contacting us directly.

Can I come along before becoming a member?

Yes. We encourage prospective members to come along, meet the coaches and players, and experience the club before deciding to join.
